![]() | Speaker: Dr. Zubin Austin Title: Aging in an Asocial Society Zubin Austin BScPhm MBA MISc PhD FCAHS is Professor and Koffler Research Chair at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy and the Institute for Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation – Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on the professional and personal development of the health workforce. He has published over 250 peer reviewed manuscripts and authored 4 textbooks. In 2017, in recognition of the global impact of his research, he was installed as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, one of the highest honours for health researchers in Canada. He is also the only University of Toronto professor ever to have received both the President’s Teaching Award for sustained excellence in education and the President’s Research Impact Award for the societal significance of his work. He has been named Professor of the Year by students on 20 separate occasions. |
![]() | Speaker: Dr. Algis Jovaisas Title: OSTEOPOROSIS Fracture Begets Fracture, Long Term Care Update Dr. Jovaisas obtained his undergraduate bachelor's degree at the University of Guelph, followed by his undergraduate medical degree at the University of Toronto. His postgraduate training began at the University of Toronto , completing his internal medicine training at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Jovaisas completed his Rheumatology training also at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Jovaisas had past appointment as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Ottawa in the Division of Rheumatology with a cross appointment in the Division of Endocrinology (1985-2015). Dr. Jovaisas is currently in full time Private Practice Rheumatology , current Medical Director of Capital North Therapeutics & Research as well as Medical Director of Specialty Health Network Infusion Centre - Ottawa. Dr. Jovaisas is Medical Lead for the Fracture Liason Service - Ottawa. Dr. Jovaisas is actively involved in teaching and development of programs in continuing health education for practicing physicians. His current research interests include osteoporosis, therapeutics in rheumatoid arthritis , other inflammatory diseases , osteoarthritis with many publications. Dr. Jovaisas is a member of the Canadian Rheumatism Association . American Society of Bone & Mineral Research. Dr. Jovaisas was one of the founding members and first President of the Ontario Rheumatology Association. Past Chair Rheumatology Section – Ontario Medical Association. Past recipient of the Physician’s Achievement Award – American Medical Association. |
Speaker: Justin Bates Title: LTC Pharmacy and OPA Justin J. Bates began his career in the advertising and marketing business before transitioning into the health insurance industry where he worked as a consultant for a pharmacy benefit manager and as a principal in a health insurance brokerage. He has spent more than 15 years advocating on behalf of the pharmacy sector in various capacities including as Chief Executive Officer of the Neighbourhood Pharmacy Association of Canada (Neighbourhood Pharmacies). In his current role as Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Pharmacists Association, he brings a strategic, collaborative and transformative leadership approach while advocating and advancing the pharmacy profession. In addition to a bachelor’s degree in political science and psychology, Justin holds a negotiation certificate from the Harvard Negotiation Institute and has completed the Institute of Corporate Directors program and the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management Executive Program: Not for Profit Governance Essentials. He also serves as Vice President of the Board Directors for the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy. |
Speaker: Jamie Kellar Title: Pharmacist Burnout Jamie Kellar is an Associate Professor – Teaching Stream and Associate Dean, Academic at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto. She received an Honors Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics (BScHK) from the University of Guelph, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BScPhm) and Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, both from the University of Toronto. Currently, she is a PhD candidate in the School of Health Professions Education, Maastricht University, Netherlands, where she is using Foucauldian Critical Discourse Analysis to study Pharmacist Professional Identity. In addition to her education, she is a licenced pharmacist in Ontario. Professor Kellar’s practice area is in the field of mental health. Dr. Kellar is an award-winning educator, having won the University of Toronto Early Career Teaching Award, the President’s Teaching Award and the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada (AFPC) National Award for Excellence in Education. |
Speaker: Alice Watt - Senior Medication Safety Specialist Title: Med Rec and BPMH Tools for use in LTC Alice RPh, BScPhm received her BSc. (Pharm.) from the University of British Columbia. She has over 20 years of experience in community and acute care settings. She joined ISMP Canada in 2007 as a Medication Safety Specialist and is also actively practicing in a community hospital as a clinical pharmacist. In her role at ISMP Canada, she is involved in medication safety incident analysis and is the lead for the 5 Questions initiative. She is passionate about engaging patients and health care practitioners in safe medication practices. |
